BACKGROUND
Our original Panama hats are hand woven by women in Ecuador, in a long-standing tradition recognized by UNESCO as cultural patrimony. Hence, they're not actually made in Panama.
The name Panama hat was derived by President Theodore Roosevelt during the construction of the Panama Canal where he was photographed wearing one, instantly gaining popularity.
Every Panama hat is unique in the sense that each artisan can only start and finish their own hat. In the same regard, each artisan has their own weaving technique which clearly distinguishes one hat from another. By the nature of this design, no two hats will ever be the same.
